Washington, DC, USA

Arriving in Washington DC was enough to tell us we were in a very busy city. We had left Lewisburg and the Sesquehanna Valley and headed towards Gettysburg. It was the July 4th weekend, so VERY BUSY. When the main Gettysburg car park fills up, there is overflow parking at the shopping outlet mall where you park and catch the shuttle. The shuttle schedule encourages plenty of shopping time :-). Whilst this can be more time consuming and frustrating, the Gettysburg visitor's centre is well worth it. The cyclorama is fantastic - my second visit here and it still is impressive. The museum and interactive displays are very informative and we left with a much greater understanding of the Civil War. I wish I could have shown Adam Harpers Ferry and some of the other places around this area, however, it was really, really busy and time was against us.

WASHINGTON DC:

Driving through Chevy Chase and we were nearly there. Caught the subway in to the centre and went from there, walking everywhere. We chose the hop on, hop off bus to orient us and ensure we saw the best of everything and spent a good day exploring the iconic monuments and parliament areas of DC. President Obama invited us for arvo tea - we were just too pressed for time! Took a raincheck! Adam went back the next day to visit the Smithsonians of choice, whilst I prepared for my technology conference [I'd been to these before]. We enjoyed a lovely boat cruise on the Potomac and dinner at the Georgetown harbour.... just lovely.
